Exactly why I am saying it doesn’t make since for Ford to dump R&D into a new ICE platform…
I wouldn’t think there would be much modification to fit a small 1.1kw battery pack in the S550 chassis (think no more spare tire bay) for mild hybrid powertrains. Maybe they do still roll it to s650 but...
Oh I absolutely think the 4 door is coming. Would make sense for it to be on the Mach E platform (the platform refresh in mid 23). That’s why I’m thinking the S650 does not exist in the way we are expecting….
Crystal ball….
MY23 S550 refresh with hybrid powertrains and a lifespan stretching...
The 7.3 in the Ford GT makes sense though as the limiting factor is width instead of length. They can just remove what little trunk space it had to make room for the increased length of the 7.3. Can't exactly increase the width though to fit a DOHC V8 in there.
The twin turbo 7.3 rumors never...
We all are assuming the S650 still exists..... It honestly might not.... A refreshed S550 (think 15 dodge challenger refresh) with new front and rear sheet metal wouldn't require extensive testing a year or so before launch. They could be going the route of dodge and keeping the S550 alive for...
Slight correction. It outsold the coupe in the month of June. Never look and headlines and then quote....
Ford's Electric Mustang Mach-E SUV Outsold the Gas Mustang Last Month (motortrend.com)
Um….. I guess you missed the whole MUSTANG Mach E….
Ford is going to do what makes Ford money… The Mach E outsold the coupe last year so I bet that has had a big affect on what the future plans for the mustang are. It’s likely electric and more usable (IE 4 door).
To me it’s VERY obvious that the coupe is not Ford’s priority. The Mach E seems to be the success they wanted it to be so why spend time on something that really doesn’t have much value…(Obviously I want Ford to pay attention to the coupe but from a business standpoint there is little incentive...
So if they built it on the Mach E platform, they could have multiple trim levels ranging from affordable to Taycan money. So they could have a RWD with around 400hp, AWD with 500-600hp, and the "GT" with 600-800hp and range in price from the mid $40ks to $80-90k just like the Mach E. Got to...
Looking into my chrystal ball….
I would expect to see a Gen 4 but with subtle changes that are not as extensive as the Gen 3 was. Got to keep in mind, it makes very little business sense to dump a lot of R&D into an engine that has a very limited lifespan…. Ford is moving away from the coyote...
There was a rumor awhile ago saying the Camaro would end with MY23 and come back in MY24-25 as an all electric. I guess time will tell if that’s true.
Ok my big theory time.....
That 4 door coupe we keep hearing about is the next BEV "Mustang" based on the Mach E platform and the engine options that were suppose to be associated with that model are actually the engine choices for the S650... (Publications have a habit of combining leaks into...
At risk of being banned, I’m going to ask the question…..
Is it possible the S650 has gone through yet another change in direction in terms of engineering? We know it’s gone through one already when it was suppose to debut in 2020 on the CD6 architecture. Now it was suppose to be a heavily...
Great job @Ace!
I very much dislike the new design language though..... I hope those rear hips never make it past the concept phase.... Just looks so out of place and doesn't flow well at all.
I do NOT like that rear arch/hip design language they are going for in the sculpture and Evos concept.... I hope that doesn't make it into the final 7g design. That being said, the Evos concept I think pretty much validates the sculpture as what the 7g will look like front to back, arches...
V8 hybrid all the way for me. Best of both worlds IMO. I just hope they actually simplify the Coyote for this powertrain option since the MY18 and up is just a rats nest of hoses and wires....
