This is the kind of stuff that I dealt with for a decade with one of my Subarus. No measurable emissions but you can't have that.... Whether it be a BOV (even one that didn't vent to atmosphere) a catch can, a turbo inlet, CAI or downpipe. One day, one shop you pass another day the same shop, but a different tech and you don't. My time is too valuable to mess with it. When I have to do smog I want to go once.

CA is the absolute worst.

They don't want you to touch anything.
Apparently so, but I doubt that's what the rules actually say. :) I suppose it's not worth challenging, though.

Unfortunately, it's largely subjective. If a particular shop or tech decides something doesn't comply or constitutes tampering you will fail visual. CARB was allowed to make sweeping regulations that make absolutely no sense. The "we know better" mentality. My parents who are older have embraced the whole electric thing. Tesla's work for them. I'll take my 5.0 thanks.

Interesting because I would expect a car tech to be more reasonable than, say, a government employee. They must have an incentive to fail people, either a threat of punishment for "letting something pass" and/or the opportunity to make money to fix the "problem."

Or....inspectors/inspection stations may be concerned about losing their licenses to test. Think for instance of a person who passed a car with non-compliant brakes, but had an accident and brakes were found to have been given a pass. That may seem a bit abstract comparison, but from many reports I've heard from CA folks, it sounds like there could even be CA nannies that check up on emission stations. Different regions of CA may be more vulnerable to that practice than others. Anyway, based on common reports from residents, related penalties can be much more than a slap on the wrist in CA.

Makes sense. I figured they could face some kind of punishment.

A couple minor things. First I put a plate from Anchor Room on the plain jane strut tower brace that came on my Performance Pack car. I was surprised Ford eliminated the OEM version.

Second, I added seat belt guides to keep the seat belts off our necks. This was a necessity after my wife and I took a road trip last month. Shout out to @AZ_Ryan for the recommendation.
