As the subject line states - I bought the Steeda H-Pipe kit and at the salesmen's recommendation bought the so called premium clamps for an additional $65. Cut pipe installed torqued clamps to Steeda recommended (On their website under install instructions) to 50 - 55 foot pounds. I have a calibration tool for my torque wrench and it is correctly calibrated.

One of the pipes was leaking so I have high temperature sealant went to loosen the clamp and it just kept spinning (see pictures) luckily I was able to get one of the nuts off and the other loose enough to be able to spin the clamp and slide it off. I bought new clamps from Summit waiting for them to arrive. In short I have to do a complete RE INSTALL going to put the new clamps on and take it to my local muffler shop and have everything welded - enough of this BS and Steeda shit inferior products...🤬

Long story short - Steeda clamps suck and don't waste your time with clamps weld the pipes and be done with it

Going to regret welding when you want to take it off...
Yeah I'm hearing you - hopefully won't want to take it off - and If I did it would be for a full cat back and just break out the sawzall no sweat

Hmm, the 10.9 Metric Class bolt is only equivalent to SAE Grade 5 bolt and I believe the standard in most automotive bolts is Grade 8, which would equate to 12.9 Metric Class.
Before going the weld route maybe get some Grade 8 or Class 12.9 bolts and re-install????

We specify these clamps and source them directly from a third-party supplier. They've proven to be highly reliable, with very few instances of failing to meet our standards.

We manufacture our Steeda products to the highest standards with high-quality materials - we don't cut corners.

I will send this to our buying team for feedback.

Thank you,

TJ

Your clamps and couplers are junk, bolts are low grade and stretch and strip - send it to your buyer "the little Chinese guy" on the corner in Hong Kong ...

...or you can send him new bolts... 🤷‍♂️
Thank you for your support - however, I wouldn't want any bolts or clamps from them under any circumstances free or otherwise... 🤬 they are pure junk, and I mean low grade garbage. I would take a refund on the purchase price I paid at the behest of the salesman telling me they were their "Premium Clamps" and that's what I needed cause the clamps sold with the unit were not up to par.

Interesting how the clamps that come with the H-Pipe are what he called prone to failure, talk me into another $65 and those clamps FAILED ...!!! They shouldn't be selling or giving clamps that are junk for free or for $$$ - period ... Most importantly is this - if you put their clamps on your exhaust they are one and done - can't be adjusted and will more then likely have to be Sawzalled off...

Correct response from a company as big as this with sales as huge as they have - should be something like this: "We are sorry to see you had problems with our products, seeing the pictures of the defective product has us concerned, please contact support to discuss a refund or other alternative solutions, thank you and sorry for the issues"

I can understand being upset when quality does not meet expectations, but there's another side to addressing issues.
Are we wanting to vent? That is natural.
Are we wanting to see change? Venting to people who have no ability to accomplish change is probably not the avenue to pursue.
Do we value relationships, whether with people we care about, or do business with? Alienating people we really don't know, probably doesn't help. Stating our prejudice probably doesn't help us become a better world either.

We all need some grace in our life, so let's show it to others as well, even when we don't feel like showing grace.

(BTW...I don't work for Steeda, am not Chinese, and have never been on a corner in Hong Kong.) :like:

Yup - as soon as I get my $65 back I’ll talk about grace, I can send you a Venmo link if you want to take care of that. Am I venting yup. Also venting to people I don’t know is called warning others. Definitely want to see change in their business practices. Am I prejudiced against this company I wasn’t but I am now. Am I alienating others why would I be. I acted in good faith and purchased what I was told was a premium product and it turned out to be far from that.

FWIW, venting on a message board does accomplish a lot often. Steeda regularly checks in here and already responded to this thread. Though their concern about customer satisfaction was pretty weak. They should have offered a refund on the upgraded clamps at the very least.

Also I do see this as more than venting...it's a buyer beware warning to others.

I once bitched on an RC plane message board about spending $200 on lipos that were crap, and the owner of the place I bought them saw my post and told me to toss them and they will send me 4 new ones they just got from a better manufacturer. He admitted they had QC issues with that batch of lipos. Which is funny because I called them up first and got nowhere with the slacker who answered the CS line. I got the replacement lipos in a few days.

I re-read their post and saw NO concern for customer satisfaction. Their post was 100% defensive.. Defensive of crap product. Talk about doubling down....on themselves!

When I ran companies for a living, my CS people were always accomodating in whatever the appropriate way was, provided the customer was honest with us. When dishonesty entered the picture, they were no longer desired as a customer and we even gave them our competition's phone number. Not surprising our competition never figured out how to compete with us. It isn't rocket surgery.

I feel sad for you. Hopefully someday you'll realize what grace is, and how to show it.
