Thank you dude but the lock is crazy the gap is scary me how that normal 😭😅
All they did was a stitch weld. The part probably did not need to be welded all the way around. In some cases it's better to stitch it. Plus these welds are done by machines so they usually are bang on task once calibrated.

It's normal. I take it as part of a crumple zone, an area designed to fall apart on impact.

It takes energy to tear a component from a vehicle and project it in another direction. I can use this property to my advantage, reducing the amount of force applied to the occupants if the vehicle is involved in an accident.

Using this area as an example, if the front of the vehicle was designed too stout, any forces would transfer through the front and into the cabin. Something we don't want.

Engineers strive to make these areas strong enough to protect any occupants, while shedding as much force as possible during an event.

One of my vehicles doesn't even involve welds. There are a series of bolts designed to shear with the appropriate amount of force, the front bumper section collapsing as a result.

@Skye ..... agreed. Some European manufacturers use soft epoxies that are as strong as welds but will stretch to absorb contact in a high velocity event. McLaren is on such manufacturer.
