I spoke with the Sales Manager at Livernois Motorsports and Engineering in Dearborn Heights (MI) this AM. They are offering 93 O tunes customized to your engine mods now. I didn't ask about E tunes as I'm not interested in those. It was $6-700ish for their tuner with 93 O tune,...................... oooorrrr $1100ish for a 93 O dyno tune at the shop (includes the tuner + tune). 20-30 HP peak gain on 93 O; for bone stock engines like mine.

They only said 20hp on YouTube (and most other tuners were saying somewhere around 15-20hp on 93 was all there was to be had)

They only said 20hp on YouTube (and most other tuners were saying somewhere around 15-20hp on 93 was all there was to be had)

O = octane (93)
E= E85

As for "only" 20 hp, their estimate is 20-30, so not far off, and after weeks more development time.

JD is correct; octane.

Paul; their Sales Manager, explained the 20-30 HP figures as due to the multiple variances between individual Mustangs (with the same kit), and conditions at the shop at the time of dyno pulls. e.g. You dyno your Mustang today and it gains 30 HP; I dyno mine on a different date and it gains 22 HP.

I'm going to wait until next year and see where this whole 7G tuning thing ends up at that point. $1100 + for a "maybe" 25 HP gain seems puny to me. I know it's not fair to compare my RS to our GTs because the RS was a turbo motor............................here comes the "but". But, LMS got me 65 HP over stock with a 93 O dyno tune (plus tuner and tune) for about the same scratch ($11-1200ish).

$1000 + right now? I'm buying a set of snow tires. In case anyone was wondering? Nitto 555s suck in the snow! 😆

They won't magically find more power in a year. You will never get the gains out of an NA car (especially one tuned to the edge from the factory like the S650) that you will see from a tune on a factory turbo car.

Turbo cars are a different world - see what the tuners are doing with the Ford Bronco Raptor, a 3.0 turbo engine - huge gains.

Even when I had my ecoboost mustang a couple cars back a tune for that really turned it into a fun quick car. NA cars just dont get much power from a tune unless you have full bolt ons

This post shows what you really don’t know and shows you have spent zero time on a drag strip. It is not “just” the 15,20,25 hp gain. It is the shifting and shift points that are just as important than a peak number.

In my wife’s S550 GT convertible the car would shift 7200, 5800, 6300, 6500 going down the strip. If it had a tune and hit say 7500 on every shift the car would pick up a minimum of .2.
Now factor in .2 from a “puny” 20hp tune and .2 after having the shift points fixed you now picked up .4 for $700ish. That is a bargain and the car will run like a different animal.

Guys will always beat off on a “peak number” but never grasp the concept “area under the curve”.
For example-So if a tune gets you 6 peak hp but you gain 20 hp from 3500-6000 you don’t think you will feel that on the street or accelerate you quicker?

My last pass at a strip (Mid Michigan Motorplex) was 1996, when I made a few with my ZX9; I think my best was an 11.12 @ 128. I was really hoping for a 10.90 but, to be honest I was scared of the damn thing coming off the line.

All of us (the 7G forum) have our own driving styles, sense of automotive style/panache, and priorities for our ride/s (whatever they may be). They’re ALL GOOD; as it’s each Forum Members money, car, and priorities.

While all the points you’ve made are valid (I’ve been well aware of them for years); they’re only valid for someone who’s interested in, or actively dragging their car. I’m doing neither; so when I assess whether a particular type of mod is worth the money; it’s for MY situation, driving style, and budget; NOT anyone else’s. That in no way invalidates their assessment of the same type of mod for their situation and I respect that. And, I enjoy reading about member experiences dragging or tracking their Mustangs, because I do occasionally gain a snippet of info I can put to use in my daily driver, grocery getter, cruising situation.

So, as I clearly stated in my last post; based on my budget and needs; a $1000 + investment in my GT is best spent on snow tires for this next season rather than a tune. Maybe next year if I’ve got the money to burn.

With an A10 I am not likely to see much of that 3500-6000 rpm on the drag strip, but, yeah, on the street it is going to be quicker.
