Let's just hope they sell over 40,000 in 2025

At least in 2022, the last time there was the 'worst sales in history', Covid and the Challenger and Camaro were around and could shoulder some of the blame.

It would be great to see the 40,000 number for the year 2025, but given the current political chaos and tariffs my guess is that Ford will be lucky if 20,000 cars sold this year. I think Detroit's big tree are in deep trouble starting next month after reading this link.

If we compare the sales numbers for sports cars with other brands in 2024 the sales are still much better for the Stang!!

Only BMW has higher numbers if you add the two and four series models, but that would be like adding Mustang Mach-E to the mustang number and in that case Ford would win over BMW. I think the Nisan Z car sale number is very poor.

Comparing Mustang sales volumes to some of the cars on your list is not an”apples to apples” comparison. For instance, if a base Mustang started out at $120,100 and topped out at $290,000 like the Porsche 911 lineup, I’d imagine the production numbers would be a lot less as well. Also, go car shopping for one. You’ll be lucky to find a new one on a lot for sale as there’s a waiting list and you’re gonna pay a hugh ADM for the privilege of the wait. I’m pretty sure Timex sells more watches than Rolex….just saying….

If we look back at Lee Iacocca’s original pitch to Ford with the Mustang concept, he presented the idea of offering a sporty, affordable and fun car for the youth market. Needless to say it was a winner with 607,568 units sold in 1966. To me it’s probable to say that with improving technology and their customer demanding higher levels of performance over the car’s history, the original idea had to be left behind. This evolution has taken us to higher pricing and a market that has shrunk in demand because of it. I suspect that the Mustang will live on but will come at a cost akin to the Corvette. The highest production years in Corvette history were the 1979 model at 53,807 & 2023 at 53,785 and Chevy keeps chugging along making them.

'worst sales in history'
You keep saying that not realizing that the mustang's worse sales year would be the "greatest sales in history" for other sports cars.

They'll be fine.

The new generation doesn’t even want cars.

The mustang doesn’t have a customer.
I can’t tell you how many 20yo or older I know don’t have a license and just bum rides from friends /parents/ uber etc…

This is, to me, the core issue. It's kind of like Harley Davidson Motorcycles. Was a time when 1%'s (as in Hardcore bikers, not 1%'s of wealth) were the core of the business, buying them even in the 80s when it was a coin flip on whether or not they would stay together and running. Then Harley started building motorcycles that cost upwards of the price of a car. Touring models now cost $30k and up; cruisers and sports models start in the $20's (new). What you could modify with these bikes also has significantly changed, going from frame and engine modifications, now to which luggage racks and "Harley Authorized" engine upgrades. Guess what, Harley Davidson has experienced declining sales in the double digits in light of these changes. It seems to me like Ford Mustang is repeating the trend.
You do realise that the ECU is locked for emissions reasons and applies to all carmakers in Europe and I suspect the US. Not a Ford 'choice'.

I've noticed that as well, shoot i know some people in their 30s that don't have licenses or want to drive. Society has really went downhill especially in the last 4 years prior to this one.

In the past I recall California’s CARB pushing for regulations to lock out access to the ECM.

Yep was a total choice by Ford

And Im doing my part- oldest daughter got her license at 16

Youngest is 13 so not old enough to drive yet but wants her first car to be a Mustang.....also hates electric vehicles because she says they are too quiet. She has ridden in Teslas before and she said it was like the most boring roller coaster ever when it accelerated.... lol

Her dream car is a Pagani or Lexus LFA

Plenty of cars allow tuning, it was a choice.
If you hate Fords so much why are you here? A little bit of research and you would be better informed, 90% of the vehicles on your list are locked for the same reason as well as anti-theft, every single high end car on your list requires special programing to replace the simplest thing on it, tuning is available for the right price, I've attached an article for you to read and get a better understanding of why Ford did what they did!!

https://www.thedrive.com/news/heres... model is built, locked out, according to Ford.

It couldn't be sold in Europe without this.

"Another dire sales report"

The only dire thing here is the desperation of some members who just can't stop beating a dead horse.

Like the car? Buy one.

Don't like it? Great - go buy yourself a BMW, a Prius, a C8, or whatever you like and close the pie holes.

Gheesh.
