New wiring for door panels?

I am installing new door speakers and the wattage I am sending is way too much for the existing factory wiring. I need to run a pair of 16AWG wires into each door. Removing the boot on the door side is easy and it's fairly easy to fish a cable through the boot. The main issue is how to get it into the car. I know there is a factory plug but even removing that is a pain. Has someone done this before and did you have to remove the whole door to get access to that harness?
