New Tire Compound Reformulation For Califonia (2029) = Less Grip

I would think that lowering the rolling resistance of a tire would decrease its grip too. Is this wrong? This doesn't surprise me. Soon I'll be buying everything out of state.

I have no idea what this is going to do to the traction and temperature rating of our favorite tires. The UTOG rating will probably go to 800 and the tires will only grip if you're going under 65 miles an hour. Some tire types are going to be excluded but they probably aren't the ones I want to use on my mustang. I'm definitely going to be looking into this move deeply. Hope I'm wrong but this doesn't sound like a positive change thus far.

These are the excluded tire types but they've changed the definition for each classification.

So the formulation of my favorite ultra high performance all season tires won't be what they are today.

• Competition tires designed for motorsports
• Winter-type snow tires
• All-season winter performance tires
• Used and retreaded tires
• Deep tread tires
• Tires designed for ATVs and other off-road vehicles
• Large off-road tires for use up to 99 mph
• Motorcycle tires
• Temporary-use spare tires
• Small tires with ≤13-inch nominal rim diameter
• Limited production tires (<15,000 per year)
• Tires sold for use on an emergency vehicle
• High load index tires (122 or greater)
• Tires not capable of sustaining speeds over 50 mph
• Space saver tires
