Yes, you have to pay for the two additional years, however the amount is fairly low that it's a no-brainer to pay for it. You have two years (at least here, were we have 3 years base) from the first registration to purchase the extended warranty, so for a 2025 vehicle you can still add it, assuming that all the checks/inspection (if you had any so far.. first is at 15.000Km) have been regular so far.

PS: if you're eligible, buy it.. that extended warranty saved me tens thousand euros (blown up engine > complete replacement) on my previous S550.

Very interesting! Do I understand it correctly, that those extra 2 years you had to purchase extra, right? Well I did not purchase any extra. Makes me little bit worried now. And I got the car new from germany in 25. I have 2 years warranty Ending in 27. :-/.
Seems like I am unable to find anything about powertrain warranty so far under my vin #

Honestly, I am worried mostly about the 10r80. I am loving it, however it could be costly if something happens in it after 2027….
10R80 is as tough as old boots - nothing to worry about

By any chance do you happen to know if I can purchase the extended warranty let say 6-7 months after purchase yet? I guess I should call the dealer…

As I said, here you can, you can purchase anytime you want before 2 years since the first registration (it's also valid for used cars).. go to a dealer and ask, they can check your record.

There are 3 ways of doing this actually. The cheapest (but few dealers seem to even know about it) is to extend before the car is registered, this is what I did and in fact in my case the dealer paid for it as part of the negotiations. You can secondly extend during the existing warranty period and finally you can add a new warranty after the end of the original warranty.

They are all slightly different and the cheapest option is the first and most expensive is the last.

It may be different in other countries - this is the situation in the UK
