Hi all, looking to join the community with 2024 GT Convertible I just looked at today. Was curious if anyone has run into the convertible top button peeling? The car has 40k miles so is out of warranty so trying to see how much and hard it would be to swap the button out.

That’s the button. The area around the arrows is worn/peeling.

Oooo... That might be expensive. If you can't get the button assembly by itself, you'd have to buy the entire module (assembly) that includes the lights, button, etc.

Of course that is just for the switch. Hope you don't break the control box attempting to remove it to access the switch. That was a problem with the S550, and it got EXPENSIVE! Be careful!

And as far as helping a switch last longer, avoid operating the switch with materials like hand lotion and sun screen on your hands. They tend to attach the material Ford uses. Don't use a citrus cleaner either.

>$100 for a little plastic switch, I'd just repaint/recoat your existing switch with a tougher material (bedliner? lol)

Second the comment on lotions, potions and liquids used on hands, any cleaning agents used in the interior. Sanitizers in-particular can wreak havoc with plastics, coatings and other finishes. Anything from interior door hands, to shift knobs and buttons. Many household cleaners can be harsh on these same materials.

As you're studying button solutions , review what's being used on hands, what cleaners are in use.

I admit I have OCD and this would likely bug me too.

Three choices replace the switch or paint it black Or have dealer replace as part of purchase

the switch is kind of intuitive in that the FRONT closes the top and the BACK opens the top

In the event no-go on getting dealer to replace, for a $100 bucks and possibly causing more damage I’d try the least expensive solution first

i don’t look at the switch as its muscle memory now

good luck

This is why i wish they were all engraved (like the ignition - the original and to this day only acceptable start/stop button).

try using just a knuckle instead of the finger tip pad and or don’t touch the paint, goes for that thar stuff covering the outside of the car as well, don’t be leaning on that thin tin… oh wait back to buttons.
