I swaped out my APIM from the base to a GT Prem with GPS i think like 2 months after i purchased the car in 2024. Not because i wanted the navigation feature but because it came with the single large screen and i wanted the Traffic Sign Recgonition (TSR) to function as it should. TSR uses data from the ford map to fill the gaps where the IPMA camera hasent seen a speed sign.

Very easy to swap no other features other than the nav, which is useless because i can not "activate" it with the ford app. Not a problem it still shows up, i can not enter a destination unless its thorugh carplay / andrioid auto, again not a big deal.

I always wondered if the APIM would ever recieve an OTA update, well just last week while my car was sitting at work i recived the latest APIM update! To be clear i was under the impression that i would not recieve any updates on the APIM because it does not "match" my orginal unit. Another intresting thing from the update is that i have access to more nav menus like radar weather and all the others that use to be blocked out. Still can't use the in built nav, but what ever!

Sorry i don't have part numbers but the APIM was from a Manual GT Premimum PP with a similar build date i belive it was a JOB2 if that matters.

Hope this clears up some confusion on OTA updates!

There is an element of luck associated with this. If the APIM you swapped in is on compatible software with the original one, the server may absorb the new APIM and updates to the Sync related modules will continue to work.
