Ford is locking the computers down to reduce warranty claims, pure and simple.

You can still do headers. You can still do useless stuff like an aftermarket air intake and filters.

The tune is a lot more agressive than before so a 93 tune isn't going to do a lot. Not that it did a ton on the S550.

The big thing is you can't run E85 anymore. Leave you with having to do octane booster or an E30 mix.

Mustang buyers didn't flock to electric cars. Plus, the Mach E sold like trash until last year (because Ford pushed huge discounts, it still sells far worse than any Tesla model)

No I don't they would have been buying the Mach-E from day 1. I think that the Tesla is actually more in-line with what Mustang enthusiasts are looking for than a Mach-E is. Considering the Mach-E is built on a modified Explorer frame and is really only a Mustang in name, Mustang enthusiasts and collectors aren't ignorant enough to fall for the blatant marketing ploy of piggybacking the Mustang name for sales. I think the reason the Mach-E struggled as hard as it did, before the mark downs, was because Mustang owners/drivers refused to buy it because it just isn't a Mustang. I still don't think the Mach-E is being bought by Mustang loyalists, with some exceptions. There are always exceptions.

I agree, but they can be pretty enticing when prices are reduced to half of the ICE equivalent, you get a $5k tax credit, you get 0% to 2% APR for financing, and you're not paying $5 per gallon at the pump. For a lot of people that is a very convincing argument.

The Mustang has had a sales problem since 2007 or so. They went from selling 130,000+ a year down to 80,000 a year. And that was probably fine because it's double what they sold last year. They had a very short spike in 2015 when they updated the 10-year old chassis but it didn't last long.

It's really just become an unpopular car. Very similar to what happened to the Camaro (which is an even more unpopular and uncool car)

What's interesting is when the Challenger came back, sales held pretty solid. While the Camaro and Mustang sales went downhill together, almost the exact same pattern from 2017-2023.

I think they would have sold at least 25% more if the Charger didn't exist, though. Sales dropped the last 2 years but the price on those things went sky high. Scat Packs were $65k+ plus (sounds like the Mustang prices...)

Challenger almost became a weird status symbol with all the free marketing from artists and athletes. That’s something I don’t really see with the Mustang anymore. Then again the type of toxic fanbase they got in return is something I wouldn’t want the Mustang to have

Yep, my wife and I if we didnt already buy a 2024 RAV4 last year. The Mach E, as a disgrace as it is, 199 a month for a SUV is legit a steal lol.

There is a very simple reason why the Mustang is selling less and less. It is a coupe and people don't want coupes any more

In the old days if you wanted high performance you needed a sports car, now everyday cars are as fast or faster, easier to drive, easy to get in and out of, more practical and spacious and more economical.

You really need to want a coupe to buy a Mustang, and most people don't.
