2024 Ecoboost noise

To preface, I am going to be bringing this car to the dealer to get the BCM recall taken care of, so i'll have them look at this while it's in, but wanted to post here to see if anyone has insight beforehand.

I have a 2024 Ecoboost that I bought back in the spring. Has just shy of 19k miles. As the weather has gotten cold in the midwest, I've noticed this noise. It might be difficult to hear in the video at first because the low rumble seems to come through the mics better, but it's louder in person. It sounds kind of like maybe a timing chain noise or a rattle or winding noise if i were to describe it but I really don't know. Could be normal for this engine? As the engine warms, the sound quiets down, but does not always go away completely. It takes 10+ minutes before it quiets down, but is still audible most of the time. I don't remember hearing it over the summer. It's easier to hear it inside the car vs outside. Car runs great otherwise, no codes or anything.

Sounds pretty normal to me. Especially when it's still cold it makes quite a racket. I'm around the same mileage. As with any car, don't drive it hard until the temps come up a bit. I usually wait until engine oil and trans temps are AT LEAST above 150 before I punch it. but that's just my preference (plenty of debate on this).

Overall, your car is probably fine. I have also noticed increased startup volume when the weather turns cold.

I would say it sounds normal for a cold engine in those freezing midwest temps. As long as it goes away once warmed up, I would not worry about it.

My GT is away for the winter but I start it every three weeks and run it until temps are normal operating range. I have done the same for my last 3 Mustangs. What I hear - on yours - is IMO normal and if it gives you some peace of mind (and I hope it does) my GTs all sounded louder until the lubricating fluids warmed-up. Always wise though to check-out what you think may be an abnormal noises/conditions and ask your forum buddies.

The only thing that concerns me is it doesn't really fully go away when it warms up. It quiets down substantially, but I can still hear it . Seems to quiet down more if the ambient temp is higher, but i'll drive 15 minutes to work and it's still audible when I park before I shut it off, just faintly.

About 160 - 170f for oil temp, not quite fully warm, but the work commute was just one example

Understood. That oil temp is hot enough that it should not be the cause of any undue "noise" from the engine block IMO. Can you hear it with the hood up? Could it be turbo noise? The turbos have very tiny oil passages and if the oil is not hot enough to flow easily through them they can make noise.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. It seems more difficult to hear with the hood up over the sound of the injectors and everything else. It's gonna get really cold here the next few days though so I'll try again.

Hi, did you discover the problem? I have the same sound. I have changed a lot of parts from the distribution but no luck.

I haven't yet. I'm going to be dropping it off at the dealer next week to get the BCM recall done and I'm going to have them look at it. I'll update here if they find anything.

Dealer tech says it's the high pressure fuel pump and is a "normal operating characteristic" per Ford....
