I test drove a 26 GT that had this same problem. So I went with a 26 Dark Horse and there's no problem. A thing to note, GT was a stick and the DH is automatic.
How did the Whipple upgrade go? Would you do it again. It's around 12-15k upgrade where I live. Like you, I don't want to mess with the warranty issues since mine is a 26 that I bought in April.

Hard to find a TV with tubes these days. No Microwave capacitors will kill you and they are marked saying as much should you ever decide to open a microwave up.
I don't know if your microwave door is a good analogy. I'd say this is closer to the microwave no longer works because it is not plugged in. But anyways.. better watch out for that microwave transformer if you ever decide to open one up. They are marked with warnings because that capacitor...
