I see where you're coming from, it gets weird at times. Sometimes we get 4 different body designs and it's one generation, other times, we get one body style for a generation.
So you're right, let me amend my original statement and say we got two different designs with completely unique...
But you also want to keep things fresh. You wouldn't release all of the variants out of the gate and then do nothing for years. You'd space things out more if the s650 was gonna have a long product cycle to ensure things were always fresh and interesting.
Everytime we have a discussion like this, it always brings out the negative comments "The mustang won't get a new generation" "The mustang is doomed" "Ford won't invest in a new platform". I don't agree with any of this. Ford at the mustang's 60th anniversary was talking about how the next 60...
A lot of the signs point to s650 being around for a shorter period of time than s550. Everything from it being a pretty mild generation in terms of changes, to the fact that they really seem to almost be in a rush to get new variants out the door. Like the s650 has only been out for what? Like 2...
I think you'll like this, shared this sketch before, it's from the actual designer who sketched the s650. The more upright roof, more compact dimensions, and the lack of a large upper grille are giving me modern take on 80s/90s vibes. Even things like the line that flows from the hood and then...
Read my post again please. The insider I quoted said if it had 90s styling influence, it would be subtle. Which means there's a good chance it'll be things like reviving the more rounded 90s shape, and lower front end instead of introducing a mustang that looks like a 90s mustang in 110% scale...
Then finally, here's a sketch of a 60s style muscle car with more evocative proportions. You guys know this is what I personally want to see from Ford because it's the most muscle car, traditional mustang looking of all of them. I know it annoys some because it basically means Ford sticks to the...
Here's a rendering someone did of a modern design inspired by a fox body, really not feeling this one but it visualizes what a modern fox body would look like. I really hope Ford doesn't go in this direction because that looks just as bad as the original fox body lol.
Getting back to the topic at hand of mustang styling, here are some more ideas. If they wanted to pull more inspiration from the 90s by designing something with a lower nose, and more rounded styling, I wouldn't mind if Ford made something that looked like this Toyota.
Yes, I know, saying that...
It's definitely wishful thinking on my part lol. But ford did kill off like half their lineup so they could devote more resources to their "iconic" products like bronco and mustang while saying they're gonna invest more in mustang than ever before. So who knows, will they probably go this hard...
Perhaps, apparently the core structure is still made of steel as well, so if they made that out of aluminum? But again, that would be very expensive. Ford's CEO as a car enthusiast himself knows how important saving weight is, and has said he wants the make the mustang lighter. We'll see how...
