Not really... a new platform would allow for things like wheelbase/overhang changes, double-wishbone suspension, repositioned engine, etc. A clean slate redesign could make for a HUGE improvement (I.E. alpha platform)

Well technically, D2C wasn't exactly a "modified" DEW, but was "Loosely based" on DEW. I'd personally consider D2C a new platform, but isn't S550 still on D2C? or is it D2R or something like that

It was a "New" platform that was based off the S197 platform, I.E. a heavily modified S197 platform. It wasn't a clean slate design

It's actually a 16 year old platform, as S550 was simply a heavily modified S197.

If they decide to utilize a carbon-composite front subframe, I hope they keep the S550 chassis so that I can swap it over to my 18 :D

IIRC it is actually a more rigid chassis. It has a longer wheelbase with shorter overhangs, which allows it to center most of its weight. And the lower center of gravity of the LT engine definitely helps it, too. I'm sure there are other points that make it better, but I'm no chassis engineer...

What you're missing is the M6 and Alpha platforms are quite superior to the s550, and the work needed to make the platform competitive just wasn't worth it I assure you, you don't know better than the engineers at ford in regards to Motorsports engineering
