Any car that gets firmware updates over the air can be shut down remotely already. The difference is who can do it.
Basic, real-world, example: Ford tried to fix a basic recall item on my F150 via a remote wireless update. It bricked the truck for a week.
Unintentional in this case, but just...
If it really is 150 pimped out, (I had guessed 135), that is pushing into what I would call..."stretch territory" and makes something like a used GT4RS, GT3, Vantage, or AMG GT R / PRO come into play (Z06 of course, but that nearly as interesting having seen and heard one in-person). That's some...
Shelby actually confirmed in what at the time was a facebook post (if I recall), that they no longer had a naming contract with Ford. That was in 2022 after GT500 production ended. It was a whole thread on Mustang6g but I don't know where it went.
I wouldn't go that far. The mustang "as we knew it" going back to its origins and mission really is the Ecoboost. That is the really the essence of what the car was. A good looking, fun, stylish car with some performance. The GT is (and always was) the spicier version. Both are very very...
After sloshing through countless comments, threads and opinions all over the internet related to this car, it seems that the overwhelming response can be distill into:
"COBRA INCOMMING F**K YEAH WOW!! THIS IS AWES....wait....WTF IS A Dark Horse SC!?!?!......well....uh....*transitions to coping...
Technically.....Saleen beat them to that model name and used it on a limited run of mustangs. So it has been used on a mustang before albeit Saleen is a tuner so...it's not quite the same.
Yeah same, though I plan to simply make the swaps on my existing GT500 if there are actual knuckle and geometry changes that result in real handling improvements (that are not just a result CUP 2 Rs) . Having looked through a lot of part lists, it appears the front and rear subframes are the...
Nah, man the GTD is a different architecture with the front SLA and cantilever suspension setup and weight distribution from the transaxle. Limited run etc. I don't consider them comparable in any way.
Its a cool car. Not worth trading a GT500 in for, but I'd certainly like to see one and drive...
The physics of a car like this, do not allow for a cheap price point. If you want this much power, and this much track capability, you have to manage a LOT of mass and energy. Energy, has been undergoing large inflation spikes which fundamentally drives up the cost of everything on the planet to...
It did say they tweaked all those things over the base DH. I'm assuming they had to, given the power increase just like they did in the GT500. Will be very interesting to see how much those things cumulatively add up on track.
I'm thinking the track pack will be an improvement on track and I'm going to go out on a strong limb and say MOST of that is the R-comp tires. The new platform is heavier, so I'd be willing to bet the weights are very similar after the 150lb reduction even with the CCBs (which I'm betting save...
Assuming you pull this from a press release somewhere?
It's nice they are offering a CCB upgrade. I really do like that for street use and weight reduction. In reality though this car is a slightly tweaked GT500 and it's going to cost more.
If its a really being called a Dark Horse, wont it have a 5.0? This seems like a trim package, or perhaps a variant but I sort of doubt that means a whole new engine. Maybe more of a street legal DH-R with a SC. Potent, but probably stupid expensive for what it is. We'll see soon.
At this point I don't care what the name is. The only thing that could tempt me away from the current Track Pack GT500 is a car with better low-end traction (via real traction control or whatever), lower weight, slightly shorter gearing, better weight distribution and an equivalently good/better...
Going to take a stab at summarizing the root cause of every argument or perspective related to the GTD in a couple boring engineering statements that strip away branding, and marketing perceptions...
~400k, is the cost of the energy required to move 4300lbs around a particular closed loop path...
I mean...let's be real did people really think there wasn't going to be a hotter variant of the car in the works regardless of what Chevy was doing, given that its basically standard industry practice to release a limited edition car and then an even more limited, higher performance variant? Or...
I know its not new, and I understand the appeal but for 60k I'd strongly recommend a lightly used GT350 for sheer enjoyment unless you want the newer tech and a manual is not an option (my bias is performance, no tech in-case you can't tell).
That being said, what experience I do have tells me...
I mean....its not really an important metric for a track car. It's the antithesis of a drag car. Plus the programmed break-in is going to intentionally throttle any dig racing attempts until the mileage is met.
Not sure why you would say that. I would LOVE drive a road like that with the GTD. Unless you're just simply referring to the curse of "media-based congestion". If you have an area you like and want to preserve...you don't plaster it on social media.
