I don't recall a time when salaried employees (any pay grade) were eligible for A-Plan but hourly employees were not. Unless you're referring to before the mid-1990's.
You do have to be a certain pay grade to get a company car, but that's different.

It took me a grand total of an extra minute to minute and a half to spin off the screws and pull the few push pins to change my oil. Not really a big deal to me. Love my Dewalt cordless ratchet.

Reminds me of the old thought pattern of "If you're leaving a room, but you're coming right back, leave the light on instead of turning it off, as it will use less electricity running than what it takes to turn it back on." That was proven to be wrong...
Were they supposed to somehow predict what future technology (that had yet to be invented) would rely upon for communication protocols, connection fittings, etc., 25 years into the future?
