I was curious, tried it out, and it does work for both sides. Seatbelt light flashes but no chime. With both passengers, I couldn't exit out of the screen showing both belts undone though. When it was just me, it did go away.
How many miles do you have on yours? I'm about 4,300, and they still shed like crazy. If I drive it 3 days in a row, I can start to see it, granted my wheels are pretty bright.
