College industrial chemistry. It was an interesting class because we learned about every day chemistry. Resins in water softeners were interesting because they take up whatever is the majority chemical. When they recharge, sodium forces the calcium out. When softening, they take up calcium and...
That's correct with one exception. The minerals, normally calcium in this part of the country are replaced with sodium. When you regenerate the resin, you drive the calcium out of the resin and put the sodium back in it. The complaint I have is the brine you use to regenerate isn't all used so...
The oil pump is on the engine side of the transmission. You need oil pressure to move the gears into place. It is an electronic transmission but the electricity controls the the valves that direct the oil.
Looks, 20 inch. I wouldn't run them because you're more likely to cut a tire if you encounter a pot hole or road trash. I have damaged a couple of them with 245/45ZR17. I was able to improve on the problem by running an additional 5 pounds of tire pressure but the ride is a bit rougher.
I probably could have got more but it was getting late and the freeway traffic was pretty heavy so I wanted to get on the road. We did the initial seat adjustment as I am above average height and we adjusted the climate system as it was still over 100 degrees. I have been figuring out stuff as I...
You can read the crib notes. They are called the Constitution but the short version doesn't include the detailed wisdom behind the words. It much different when you can look at the 250 year old words of the people who wrote it. As a compromise, look at the version of the federalist papers with...
Something missing and that's how to get a car to dry spot free. The water here is hard, about 20 grains and it tends to be alkaline. I could install a sodium water softener but because the water is recycled, I hate to add any more minerals to it as that makes the waste water less desirable. I...
I don't know about this thread. On surface streets I normally upshift at 2,000 RPMs. The exception is when I need speed like on a freeway ramp. I have streets that are 45 miles per hour and I run 6th gear as they are flat and level. 6th gear isn't much for acceleration but works well for cruising.
This all went through before the Republicans regained the house. As tempting as one party rule could be, our government was designed to make it difficult to happen because tyranny tends to be the result. It can happen to either party but the goals of the parties will be different.
I have been reading about this on the conservative web sites for a couple of weeks now and it poses an interesting problem. I am the permanently designated driver because I never drink but I have driven with a car full of people who shouldn't drive. Will they set off the alarm so I can't drive...
It really doesn't affect the shift points very much. The big difference was when ford got away from the 4 speed with third as the 1:1 gear. The original 302 had low end grunt were the the 5L needs RPMs to show it's stuff. To compare, what you probably want is
Old RPM/Old speed=New RPM/New speed...
I lost the factory idler pulley about 6 months ago on the 96. It sounded like metal on metal or a ball bearing failing if you every hear one. Kind of a screeching or metal on metal without oil. I had the window down and when I heard it, I knew exactly what it was and planed my visit to ford the...
My transmission was a bit stiff at first but it has become a real pleasure to shift at 1,000 miles. Remember that my trip to work is only 3 miles but it's stop and go so I probably have near 1,000 trips through the gears.
Yesterday I was parked and managed to get the gears out of alignment...
Before you hit the insurance company, get an estimate for the repair. You might be better off paying out of pocket to avoid the increase in your insurance policy. I had a home robbery and when I found out how little the company covered, I would have been better off eating the loss. They had a...
I saw something that said RAMs have the highest numbers of accidents for a pickup. It probably has something to do with the Hemi and people thinking they are driving a race car. In cars, Tesla holds the record. Who would have though the Mustang was a safe car to drive? In the past, my insurance...
Agms aren't sensitive. The problem is they are designed to pack more power in a smaller space and to accomplish this, the connections inside the battery might not be as heavy. Also because they don't have room for extra acid, the plate material is probably made from pure lead which is pretty...
I found a user settable setting in the menu that said it turns the car off after 30 minutes of idle time. I haven't played with the setting as I figure if the car has been idling for 30 minutes, it should probably be turned off. If I am in a traffic jam, I would normally turn the car off long...
