I completely expected different opinions. What I did not expect was a bunch of anecdotal evidence, and "way back in my day when I had a carburetor" story's about completely different things and how there is no way what I stated could possibly be true. Despite plenty of information stating it...
Ya , the dealership cares EXACTLY the same about a vehicle they want to service and sell , as the guy buying it. 🙄
Never once did I say it was "mandatory"
Rough crowd in here.
Marine engines ... Junkyard engines... Jet engines... Rebuilt engines...
What does any of that have to do with this topic ?
You keep sharing the process to "Prime" a fresh build. What the F does that have to do with this topic ? It is two different situations. If you want to use a...
What makes it clear ? I am not offended in the least. I expect opinions , so far I have not been swayed.
There may be someone who explains why it doesn't push oil , or why it is actually worse to do. Everything I read says preoiling a engine is beneficial to its longevity. Does it make a big...
It states that a Gerotor pump doesn't self prime very well ,if at all from what I read. So yes , you would need to push oil through the system after a rebuild or it will simply air lock and not pull oil. Once the system is primed , and granted it doesn't drain out , it will continue to push...
I was a bit nervous, as our battery does drain low. I allowed it to spin over for about 5-7 seconds , and as soon as I let off the gas it fired right up.
Yes , I 100% agree. You HAVE to prime a rebuild or freshly assembled engine with a oil primer pump. It states that clearly in a lot of what I am reading. Do Not use the "flood procedure" I never said to do this after you reassemble your engine. lol.
I honestly could change my opinion, but...
What you shared said 5.2liter , Wouldn't that be a Vodoo or predator engine ? They require higher oil pressure , so it may not apply the same to those engines. Also in high performance applications, I could see them recommending the oil pump over the "flood procedure"
Are you saying a...
How often does your 2024 Flood ?
I find it interesting you only see it this way , and call people "goobers" who have read differently.
It absolutely distributes oil when turning over. Now is it necessary ? Does it make a difference on engine wear ?
I can definitely listen to that debate ...
That is for a 5.0 Coyote? I thought it had oil pump gears attached directly to the crank ? I don't think what you shared applies here.
Edit: I learned a bit more. I did find that a Gerotor does still pump at low RPM's .. ?
It will just turn over without firing , which allows oil pressure to build up in all your internals. That way when it starts , your bearings are all well coated.
Just hold the pedal to the floor , then after it turns over awhile , let off the gas. It will immediately start up after that.
Just...
After your car sits for an extended period of time ,
How many of you hold the gas peddle to the floor during startup to allow oil pressure to build before starting ?
It says you should anytime it sits awhile. I did it the other day for the first time.
Curious if everyone else says , ya duh ...
