Hi guys I'm sure this questions been asked multiple times. But california is a crazy state. So I just wanted to make sure. I just got my new gt and the salesman I bought the car from said that a modified exhaust will void my warranty. Is this true now ?

no. no its not. warranty cannot be void due to a modification unless they can prove the said modification caused the said problem. Warranty is through ford, not the state your in so do the exhaust, dont listen to the salesman.

That must be in the salesman 101 learning course because almost all sale people want to say that as a scare tactic but I don't understand why. I honestly feel like a lot of it comes from ignorance, they heard it on the internet or from a friend of a friend that had warranty denied and tried saying X caused Y.

Just keep in mind as you do mods, what could the mod hurt. If it's something you think could cause some sort of problem to the car at some point during the warranty period, don't do it. When warranty is gone you don't have any restraints it doesn't matter, full send lol.

It will void the warranty that covered the replaced part.

I had no issues with my 2020 S550, it had a Borla Switchfire and the Ford Performance by Borla Sport axle back.

He probably just wants you to do everything through Ford for more dealer profit, exhaust won’t void warranty, assuming it’s installed correctly.

Modifying the exhaust may not void the warranty, but, in California, it sure will make it more difficult to pass the smog test. You don't have to worry for a few years with a new car, but as soon as it is eligible for bi-annual smog testing, you may have a problem unless you have a "friend" at the local smog station. Any visible mods to intake or exhaust are automatic failures.
