I've found this will get damp from washing your car, especially when using a pressure washer.

I'm going to look at how this hangs down from the two mounting points, because I think it's sitting in between the rubber, protruding out from the rubber and getting wet. Either that, or the seals are crap.

Solution for now is to raise the trunk and let it dry out for a bit, after washing the car.

Here was my version of the install video:

Love the concept, honestly looks like it will get pinched by the gasket every time it closes though. I would think that installing on the other side of the latch would rectify the issue.

I tried installing on the other side, but the latch would get in the way near the bottom of the trunk’s range of motion, where it still needs a lot of force to close.

I currently have a simple solution with some webbing from Michaels that goes over the trim piece rather than through a slit:

It does get pinched by the weatherstripping and pulls down on the trim piece a little, but I don’t think there will be any issues other than the strap getting wet.

The real cure for this dilemma is an electronic (hands-free) open/closer. BUT, looking at the hinge configuration, I wouldn't hold your breath.
