Hello all, so let me start out by saying this I don’t work for Redtiger or any of their affiliates. I simply replied to one of their posts on Mustang 7G when they asked for people to test their product. I have been running various dashcams in all my vehicles over the course of the last several years. I mainly stuck with one particular brand but have had some reservations about purchasing another from them with some of the issues I have had downloading updates through their website. So when this opportunity came along it made sense to give them a try. My review is based of my limited experience that I have had with this product over the course of the last week and the timeline that was requested to post the review.

In opening the packing everything was nicely put into its own spot and had the little diagram showing what all the pieces were and where they were located. I did notice right away that this unit came shipped with a 128G Sandisk memory card that was already located in the unit. This was an immediate plus since the previous ones I purchases this was a separate purchase. In handling the camera it felt very well put together and fairly light which was nice.

Installation,

So I decided for this go around not to hardwire the install even though they did provide me everything to do so, and want the parking monitor option they offer with the hardwire kit. The reason being is that I decided to wait until after the water intrusion recall has been completed which I have an appointment for on Monday 22 December. So for now the install was straight forward and just followed the user manual. Nice thing is they do give you extra 3m tape, and electrostatic stickers in case you want to move the unit. So after attaching the front camera, I just ran the lines down the A-pillar on the passenger side and plugged into the 12 v receptacle under the radio. From there I ran the back camera and ran that line through the trim to hide it.

From there I turned the camera on and connected to my local WIFI, and the Redtiger phone app. It worked seamlessly, there was an update available and it automatically asked if I wanted to update the firmware on the unit. Compared to the other cameras I have, this was simple to do and a definite plus on this unit. From there I adjusted some of the settings which seemed to be a little more limited than the settings that can be adjusted on the other cameras that I do have. As you can see there are lots of setting that can be adjusted on the unit and not only is the sceen touch screen it also has physical buttons on the bottom of the unit. Also they provide you with a trim removal piece in case you need that as well.

So after the install went for a drive with the new unit to see how it would do, it wouldn't let me upload the video so I attached some of the screen shots. As you can tell the unit has very clear camera views during the day. However at night is a whole different story, as you can see the traffic lights and the headlights on the picture are not clear. AS you get closer they will reflect even more, together with the reflection of the windshield it becomes an issue. I cleaned wind shield both inside and out prior to mounting the unit.

So here are the rear camera footage views,

The speaker on the rear camera is extremely loud, the road noise is unbearable when you are listing or watching the video especially on head phones. The daytime looks fine, but the night time is a whole other story. I tried looking to the settings and I couldnt find a setting that would lighten the camera for the rear as I do with my other cameras. The back window on my Mustang is tinted, but that shouldn't matter. They need to have a setting that allows you to adjust the resolution for both front and rear cameras that allows you to adjust for this. I have it on my other cameras and it works well. This camera does offer a interior camera but do to my line of work and my not so good looks (hahaha) i didnt want to scare anyone, but based of the footage I have it seems to work well.

This camera does have a GPS setting as well which is sort of nice, that you can access through your phone in case you need to. The phone app works pretty well and it allows you to download your videos, watch them, or share them with people. Being able to adjust the settings on the phone are limited, compared to all the settings you can find on the unit.

So in closing, like I said in the beginning I'm no pro when it comes to these cameras and I just provided a review based of my interaction that i have had with this unit over the last week. This camera is easy to remove from the windshield since it can slide right out of the bracket that holds it on the windshield however that could go both ways as well. You can adjust the camera up and down on the windshield and they provide the allen key to loosen the bolt. Would be nice to be able to adjust left and right as well, since it can be a pain to center the camera correctly on the windshield. Would I purchase this camera going forward based of what I currently know? Yes I would. This unit has some nice features that definitely are better than the units I currently run (which are fairly new). Plus everything comes with the unit and is ready to run right out of the box. This was also a test of their newer unit and obviously they are looking for real world testers to provide them honest feedback on their experiences. I'm hoping they will provide an update that allows us to adjust the setting on the cameras to not have white wash lights at night and able to see out the back window if tinted (unless I missed it).
