This is not actually a clay, rather a chemical that can dissolve and remove surface bonded contaminants, iron in particular. The active ingredient is Sodium Thioglycolic acid, which turns purple or red when it has reacted and dissolved the iron particles.

While these products are extremely effective, they only remove iron particles and won't remove all contamination. In other words, they are best used in tandem with a traditional or synthetic clay product. As in, apply the product, allow to react, rinse, then if the paint still feels rough, progress to using a clay bar or synthetic clay towel/sponge/mitt.

NV actually make a combined clay lubricant and iron remover called Purify, which allows you to combine the two methods into one step. I have done this, but I much prefer to do iron removal and claying as separate steps.
