Hey folks. Just got a low mileage Bullitt from Carmax. There's some rattle at certain RPMs. Not sure if it's heat shields or drivetrain related. They said they'd cover a diagnostic at a Ford dealership. In your experience which dealership in the SF Bay Area (Peninsula preferably) is best in terms of experience with Mustangs troubleshooting and repair? Thanks!

@8Bullitt7 ,

Did you ever find a dealer?

I just purchased my car at Serramonte Ford. They are in Colma, maybe closer to you than Fremont.

I don't have any experience with their service department yet, but they're giving me a free oil change in a few months so I'm going to give them a try.

While shopping for my car, I also contacted Putnam Ford in Burlingame but their sales manager was such a prick that I will never do business with them or take my car there.

@DarkHorsePremium Nice, congrats on the Dark Horse.
Yes, I took my Bullitt to Walnut Creek. They did a lengthy diagnostics and their hypothesis is the input shaft bearing being the issue and recommended a full tranny replacement. The caveat is that it is a ~$6-7k job, and Carmax are dragging their feet to approve.

I have a very similar experience when I bought my Mach E 4 years ago. I started with Putnam and the sales people were super sleezy and played games to get me over to the dealership and then change the terms when it came to finalizing the purchase. So I ended up also buying from Serramonte, and that was a pretty clean process.

Reason why I didn't want to take my Bullitt to Serramonte for this diagnosis is that they're a high volume dealer and don't seem to be interested in addressing any out of ordinary issues. They seem to be just focused on getting cars in and out as fast as possible for service. At least that's my experience with them for my Mach E. For regular service though (like oil change, etc.), they should be okay.

@8Bullitt7 ,
Your negative experience with Putnam is one of many apparently.

Glad you got your issue identified. Hopefully CarMax approves the repair for you. I got really lucky with Serramonte. Car with the options I wanted and first color choice fell into my lap. They do have a large lot.
