Hi All. New here, but long time Mustang fan and former owner of a 1989 LX 5.0 notchback.

Anyone have any info or guesses as to whether Ford will produce any special editions (GT500, Boss, Cobra, etc) for 2025?

Welcome to the forums.

It's something I'd like to be proven wrong on, but, other than a 60th Anniversary Edition, I would not expect a GT350/500, Boss or Cobra-like edition in 2025.

- The current vehicle market, economy in-general and pricing won't support one

- There's still a lot of value in purchasing an S550 (insert the one of interest here)

- Ford wouldn't produce yet another special model, not while the 60th is in production

- Dodge is fielding it's performance EVs, with many wondering how they'll be received

- The path ahead for performance ICE vehicles, from Ford's perspective, is not entirely clear

That takes us into 2026, which seems distant at this point.

Maybe in 2026. A good time for a refresh on the S650. Designers, if not tasked, have their own renderings and models they create on the side. Like us, they're always discussing what's possible.

In the mean time, it sounds like the Handling Package Dark Horse editions are getting back into production. A bit of conundrum. Lots of choices available today, or wait. Wait for something that might not come or something better than today.

Once again, welcome. :like:

I'm hoping for a return of the Boss 302 and Terminator nameplates!

Will be putting my money on a Shelby or a Raptor off-road version if that happens!
Definitely think Ford needs something more than just a Dork Horse.

@Crew4991 Why all the hate? Given all its variations, Ford is backing the new name plate unlike any I've seen before it. It may be limited in availability, but it looks to me like it will be an enduring one. Just imagine a Dark Horse Boss or Dark Horse Terminator! I would like to see a Dark Horse Cobra! 😋

A Terminator nameplate would 100% get my money, even if I couldn't afford it.
I'm sure the politically correct/Lib crowd will prevent that from ever happening though

There will be a GT500 5.2L S/C in 2025/26 and a Mustang GTD, (5.2L S/C) in 2024/25!!!

Honestly they should have called the Dark Horse a Boss 302.

If there is, then there will be a price tag to match it given the price point of the DH. Slapping a S/C on the DH will be a much better value in comparison methinks. At that point you are mostly paying for the name. I'm still not convinced, whatever comes in 2025/2026, that it will be called a GT-500 though. I still think it will be a derivative of the DH, much in the same way we have the GTD which is actually a Ford GT inspired Dark Horse.

Thanks for the detailed response and links. A lot of your points seem valid. I’m in no rush as I plan on retiring in a few years and would like to grab a new GT500 or equivalent to ride off into retirement with before the ICEs get retired.
