Hmm. I know this might be tricky, but can you get a picture of that film? Sounds like an aftermarket thing. Maybe someone put PPF on the windshield??? Did it come that way from the dealer?

If you are a novice, the best advice I can give is that a proper cleaning prior to wax is esential.

Quality dry filters are worth the investment because they are easy to clean and can last the lifetime of the car. And there is plenty of data online that shows better flow testing if you just google. Plus Motorcraft paper filters don't last too long in my neck of the woods.
