Its not the width its the offset. Not sure about the offset in the rears with the square set up, but you can put much wider wheels than that and be just fine.

My first reaction was bad wheels. Ive heard many stories about aftermarket rims having defects and poor balance. Those Conti Extreem Sport Contact 2s are great tires. I have a hard time believing you got two bad ones. But stranger things have happened. Let us know how it goes.
