I get the passion. We are all Ford fans that want great things and see it succeed but the current method of add a bigger tire, new fenders, or supercharger cannot catch competition from newer more updated cars.
The gt500 with 110 more HP could barely, just barely, beat the zl1 1LE at a race...
you’re being a Debbie downer. GTD has bespoke rear suspension which I also want but no I don’t want a GTD I want everything a GTD has but for $100k.
I think the best answer is these companies need to put their collective effort into a better chassis. Partner with Ford to get aluminum frames made and cover crash testing 3-4 ways split across roush, saleen, rtr, Shelby , etc.
that would save 150-200lbs alone.
then do composite roof, hood...
I don’t know why you’re mad at me, man I’m not the enemy. I’m just telling you they need to be more creative. Do something better? Start a new company build a new car. I don’t know like I said I don’t have all the answers, but with this thing it’s not it.
This is the intellectual laziness I’m talking about by these aftermarket tuners. The work is already done. Ford did it. Do something better. Make a new car. Figure out how to take 500lbs out of the car, have McLaren make you a carbon mustang tub you bolt the rest of the car too, idk man start...
absolutely.
they could have bought body in white s650 chassis only, worked with FRPP to deliver 5.2 aluminators making 550hp, a tremec TR6060 transaxle, light weight Steeda style k members, work with Apex to get some actual light weight wheels done, a supplier for some real lightweight seats...
Too many here are trying to come up with elaborate reasons for things.
Occams razor explains this well (the simplest solution is often the best). Shelby cheaped out and knew they could still sell a bunch of these with just buying off the shelf GT’s and upgrading them.
they could have called...
Guys if you aren’t familiar with the concept of a money grab, this is one.
* minimal development
* no chassis changes or investment in anything besides marketing
* off the shelf supercharger and tune from whipple already smog approved
* a few custom decals and appearance changes to draw in low...
