I have doubts that the S550 design can be bested, but what if the S650 makes it look like a Mustang II? I'd hate to have waited until the end of the S550 to pop for a GT500 and have instant buyer's regret...
I owned both a 2007 GT500 vert and a 2009 Bullitt. Both were nice cars, and with overall better build quality than my S550. I actually preferred the Bullitt to the Shelby (handled far better), and if it would have been powered by the 5.0 I'd probably still have it.

Recently I made the mistake of looking at, and sitting on, a new Ducati Streetfighter V4. Since I've been repeatedly telling myself I don't need a fifth motorcycle.....but that level of performance for ~$20K is tantalizing.

While the Barracuda was technically first, it's precisely a Valiant with a fancy back window. The first Mustang definitely used Falcon underpinnings, but was a clean sheet design otherwise. Big difference.
