  1. 2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

The packaging requirement for an I6 and a dohc V8 are quite a bit different. I would assume that the M4’s I6 would be a bit slightly longer than the coyote…but keep in mind, some of that engine can be tucked in the area between the driver and passenger. The tall and wide DOHC V8 doesn’t have...
  2. 2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

Considering most of the F150 weight savings is in the aluminum body and bed...and the mustang already has some aluminum components, I wouldn't expect to save much more than 50-100lbs by going to an all aluminum body. More weight savings could certainly be had in changing some of the chassis...
  3. 2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

The F150 frame is still steel.
  4. 2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

The current mustang has aluminum hood and front fenders. Most of the energy absorption however comes from the crumple zone in the front bumper and clip. The fenders and hood are there for looks and aero. Any lightweight additions from here on out will not come from making the car smaller...
  5. 2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

That overhang is there for a reason....it's not all aesthetics. The crumple zones incorporate that overhang for occupant protection. And no, sacrificing trunk space does not need to be done. These cars aren't Miatas for petes sake. The only way these cars are getting any smaller is if they...
  6. 2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

Again, not happening. There is a reason the camaro and mustang are very close in overall size. In order to have adequate crash protection for all occupants, the current sizes are not getting any smaller.
  7. 2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

Yeah, it's not getting smaller. There is a reason cars are bigger now than 20 years ago....and it's not just because of us fat Americans. Safety requirements and packaging pretty much dictate today's car sizes.
  8. 2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

Man, we will continue to disagree on this. I have no idea how you are seeing this. Everyone (including Ford) thinks the S550 has the same fastback design cues as the original. It's one of the major things that drew me towards the design. Moving the cabin rearwards does not make it look any...
  9. 2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

Man, it's not even close how far off that AMG GT is compared to any fastback mustang ever made. It's a totally different design...more in-line with a dodge viper than anything else. If you want to say both of below are more of a fastback than the fabled "fastback" mustang...so bet it. Let's...
  10. 2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

I think you need to have your eyes checked. The current GT is as fastback as it gets. You need only look at the previous generation models (or any other coupe) to see the difference.
  11. 2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

Da fuk? You do realize that the current S550 has the fastback profile...and is indeed called the "fastback" don't you?
  12. 2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

To a certain extent...maybe. If they had made the poor decision to make it FWD and look like a Ford Probe, the mustang would have been gone a long time ago. If you eliminate everything that makes a mustang a mustang...all you have is the name, which will only keep you afloat for so long...
  13. 2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

The majority of mustang buyers are most certainly not baby boomers…that assumption is totally false. Corvette buyers on the other hand… I will agree, the mustang name sells itself…however, nostalgia is and always will be part of the mustang mystique. You can chose the deny it, but even the...
  14. 2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

The heritage of the mustang is what sells it...and any design cues that allow it to maintain any semblance of the sort will continue. People have nearly always chosen the mustang over the competition despite it nearly always being slower. Let that sink in.
  15. 2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

This is not going to impact the US anytime in the near future. They have different emission standards, different taxation rates based on engine size, different taste for diesel engines. They have different requirements for their vehicles (much better public transportation systems). As for...
  16. Mustang Hybrid (S650) Announced, Debuts in 2020

That overhang is a defining feature of the mustang. Chop it off and your styling cues will look like a compact car (or a camaro). And that's assuming there is room (crumple zones may not ever allow this).
  17. Mustang Hybrid (S650) Announced, Debuts in 2020

Exactly. The only thing that is going to allow the mustang to significantly decrease in overall length is going to be chopping off 2 or 4 cylinders.
  18. Mustang Hybrid (S650) Announced, Debuts in 2020

I think you are vastly underestimating just how little of a difference a smaller displacement V8 would have on packaging....especially if you were to throw an any type of forced induction. An inch, maybe. 7-8 inches, no way in hell.
  19. Mustang Hybrid (S650) Announced, Debuts in 2020

You are forgetting that unlike the WRX, the mustang has to protect for a V8 engine. As long as the mustang has a V8 and rear seats, it's length isn't going to shrink. There simply isn't enough room. There is a reason the camaro and mustang share nearly the exact same external length and...
  20. Mustang Hybrid (S650) Announced, Debuts in 2020

Funny, I didn't realize the EB mustang ran 12 second 1/4 miles as the 2012 5.0 mustangs did. And, improving the internal combustion engine doesn't necessitate smaller displacement. As for the windsor, I would have no issues with an OEM 408W assuming it was as updated as GMs current...
