When the manufacturer maintains the vehicle it’s more difficult to point fingers.

Getting back to making you feel good. Can't help with that. Maintenance/extended warranty plans are almost always a waste of money for the consumer, and hugely profitable for the seller. Otherwise they wouldn't be selling them.

Waste of money, maybe, if the warranty is never used, and that's a flip of the coin. I've had extended warranties (Ford ESP) on my last 3 vehicles and so far have only had to use it once. Some repairs a very expensive, some not. I prefer to pay a little now than a lot later. Comes down to peace of mind and what looks reasonable.

To each his own. Peace of mind to me is money in my bank account rather than in that of a warranty company. In

Peace of mind and me turning 70. I got 100,000 mile full warranty and 20 oil changes, every 5,000 miles for a total price of 4018.00. Well worth it to me. Getting too old to get under the car.

My finance guy is a huge Mustang fan and gave me 8 year bumper to bumper warranty at 0 profit to the dealer, undercoat, electronic rust protection paint protection, and interior protection with a 10 year paint defect and surface rust/perforation warranty at his cost. All said and done I think it was around 6k Canadian rubles to basically guarantee the thing will not have a spec of rust nor a paint chip on it for 10 years. He was really happy to see someone finally wanting to winter drive a Stang and he wanted to help me keep it as protected as possible.

If you're financing, and it's your daily, extended warranty and protections are always worth the peace of mind that you will have a way to get to work while you are still making payments imo. If I was buying outright I would nix all the add-ons and get my chassis protection done elsewhere for cheaper.

I do all my own maintenance. Costs less and makes me feel far better knowing it was done right. I'm not 70, but I'm pushing 60 and only have one leg. If I can do my own maintenance, you probably can ... 😉

YMMV.
