I have been thinking of getting a new Shelby GT500. But with the New S650's coming out very soon. Is it worth just waiting. Hopefully Shelby will have something in Year 1 with the New S650.

I think the S650 will fix a lot of the things I miss on the S550. like more Tech and better interior.

Don't expect anything like a GT500 successor before a S650-refresh or late model years. Maybe some form of new GT350 might come early.
But overall if you are looking for a GT500 I doubt S650 will have the right model for you within the next 3-4 years.

I agree with Ace. Look at the f150, the bread and butter for Ford, raptor not until the second year, high end raptor in the third year. The first year mustang will probably not have a GT500 model.

I'm still enjoying my 5.0 GT PP1 10A, so I'll be ready by then for the S650 super stang. I hope its just called Mustang Cobra. Give up the Shelby name already.

I have a 2020 gt
If it's coming soon, I'm happy to sell my 2020 at current high prices, wait it out and put the $$$ towards the new shape as long as its a v8 and sounds as good

Nah man, that Shelby badge is worth its weight in gold
Yeah I totally get it. Ford can charge that $$$$$ for the name. Shelby's hand was not involved though.

And Henry is no longer involved in new Fords, but his name is still on the car šŸ˜›

The Mach 1 has proven that Ford dealers will always charge a "market adjustment" if they can think they can get away with it.

In marketing terms, the Shelby name is probably worth more than its weight in gold!

I think in terms of marketing FORD is checking a lot of the right boxes wheather we like it or not.

Building a strong name pays off in the long run. The new Bronco Warthog will be renamed to Raptor. If you want to compete in the world market you need strong brands customers can recognize and identify with. Thatā€™s why I donā€™t believe the Cobra name will come back or that the Shelby name is going anywhere. I only know the German market but almost everyone knows the name Mustang. Many people know that a Shelby GT500 is the top tier Mustang same as a M3/4/5 or a 63 AMG badge is the top tier car. (Fun fact: GT350 is nowhere nearly as known as the GT500 thanks to movies and such). But hardly anyone has heard the names of Cobra, Falcon, Cougar or whatsoever at least if we talk about modern customers.

To get back to the topic: go for the GT500 now. The next supercharged Mustang wonā€™t be out until 2025 or something ;)

I saw on another forum that the 2022 Shelby GT500 has been confirmed.
That will likely be the last year.

Better interior - you're delusional.
Tech - oh sure, more stupid crap Ford can't even get the basics right, why would a more complicated setup have a prayer? Buy a Tesla.

I would wait till the S650 is revealed and then buy the GT500 when it's attractiveness plummets as a result.

the older GT500 actually looks good. People who buy GT500 generally chase latest, so they'll "dump" the old one in a heartbeat.

Tough to say. After seeing GT350s/GT500s on the road and in dealerships, I see my EcoBoost and still say to myself, "But I like my car better, even if those two surely drive better both on paper and pavement." Price and fuel economy aside, I just don't feel that same connection or draw towards those two Shelbys versus seeing my car (or any other facelift S550s, if I'm being honest) whenever I see them in person. šŸ¤Æ

I personally prefer the GT350, but the GT500 is by all accounts an amazing car. Every review has praised it extensively, and Randy Pobst pegged it as his ā€œbest drivers carā€ in the latest Motor Trend comparison (where it came in second overall to a Lamborghini). The two Shelby models have shown that Ford can build an amazing car when they choose to.

So, if you are looking for the ultimate Mustang, I think it will be tough to beat a GT500 or GT350.

The S650 will have the better tech and updated looks, but I think it will take some time before something arrives with the same focus as those cars.

But, I do think Ford will provide something eventually, it it will likely be awesome if they decide to spend the same amount of attention to the vehicle. Still, who knows what the market will be like. And because the GT500 is such a good car, I think it will hold its value for quite some time.

Sure wish we knew what the S650 is going to look like, with the thread topic in mind....

I have doubts that the S550 design can be bested, but what if the S650 makes it look like a Mustang II? I'd hate to have waited until the end of the S550 to pop for a GT500 and have instant buyer's regret when the new car breaks cover (and special versions are sure to come)....
