Dumb question - Continental ProContact tires in cold weather

I've got a GT Premium that still has the stock rims and tires, 19" Continental ProContact. I haven't driven a sports car with this kind power in almost 30 years, so I'm sure this is a stupid question and am just trying to educate myself.

Like a lot of the US, we're dealing with a cold snap here and it's the first time since I got the car that temperatures have regularly been below 40' (and below freezing at night). I'm finding under moderate acceleration through a curve, the back wheels want to slip out from under me as if I were on ice even though the road is dry. (Absolutely not flooring it during a turn, and never had this problem when it was more temperate.)

Is this just a characteristic of the tires that they're more brittle and less grabby in the cold? (99% sure that's it, but want to make sure.)

My first experience with summer tires was with my S550 which has a set of PS4 summer tires, it was 32 degrees out and I was taking a slow turn and accelerated slowly and the back broke loose, summer tires have no grip and can be damaged by driven in cold conditions, that's why I put a set of PS 4 all seasons on as soon as I took delivery.

I have the stock Pro Contact Continentals as well , haven’t noticed any traction issues yet this winter on cold dry roads here in Pa…..

You have all-season tires, so you shouldn't have any issues driving it in general cold weather. I would not be confident enough to drive this car in icy/snowy weather. If you feel some slipping in the rear tires, you can put the car in slippery/snow mode and it should handle better in these conditions.

I hear ya, lucky I’ve always had a older Bronco or F150 4X for a bad weather beater…dry cold weather no problem, wet slush and slop…. truck time!
