I appreciate this isn't S650 related........at least not yet, but I expect we'll see a similar type of camo adopted for all Ford prototypes, including S650, from this point on. This is clearly a response to leaked prototype photos taken at supplier locations.

"This particular pickup sports a vinyl or vinyl-adjacent material that is literally riveted to the body for one express purpose: to prevent the third-party company that tests the model on behalf of Ford for its EPA-mandated emissions testing from seeing anything noteworthy about the truck. While riveting camouflage to the body might seem like an extreme move on the Blue Oval’s part, the procedure helps keep any details about the truck away from prying eyes"

But you can still see a lot of bodylines through the camo. No matter how hard they add padding, I think we will can make great guesses what they all could mean. :like:

And Ford is deciding to do this NOW??? Kinda late on their part if they didn't want us to see the new Ranger yet... We already have seen lightly camoed trucks, plus a full leak of the actual truck from a few years ago. Perhaps Ford has changed and tweaked the original design a bit since then and they don't want us seeing the differences...

Good to have the question marks, because the answer is, this is Ford standard operating procedure in regards to prototype vehicles. It’s not new.

BMW does the same thing, as do many manufacturers in terms of disguises. They are designed by engineers, screwed on and the testers have lasting damage from it.

The Ranger leaked in February 2019 was the final clay styling mockup being approved that month by execs, before engineers and etc finessed and finalized it later that year into 100% production spec to lock it in (and then built first running examples 5-6 months later).

What we see or don’t see doesn’t matter, because unless it’s due for immediate reveal or in showrooms very soon, it will remain in deep disguise.

A painted clay model with fake headlights being leaked 3 years early only made Ford very pissed and allegedly made them hide the public rollout of Bronco testers longer, plus these as well.

These trucks were testing intermittently for a year in off the grid secrecy, partly due to COVID and sour grapes over the leak and refusals to take them down per cease and desist.
