Apologies if I’m doubling up with another thread

Keen to get any thoughts the forum has about anti-theft solutions

I understand that there are solutions out there that provide the following features, but not necessarily all in one

- remote engine immobilise from smart phone
- OBD port kill switch to prevent key cloning
- multi-factor authentication to start car

I’ve not been able to find much independent advice on solutions that include some or all of these features .

My key resides in a Faraday box when I’m at home and in a Faraday pouch when I’m out and about (as too does the spare in a pouch)

The ultimate anti-theft device would have been to get a manual transmission, but driving in Melbourne traffic as I do it just wasn’t practical for me.

Did your dealer explain Ford Pass to you, that the car is sending data back into Ford Data Center all the time on S650's and in the event of the theft of your vehicle you give the Police authority to access VIN and Ford Pass data, and they can see where the car is located. Sure, I understand some people have turned this feature off that's fine everybody has their reasons we are all individual. But I like the idea of not having to argue with the service department about an issue with the vehicle when they can pull the data and see what you're talking about.

Thank you XRS

Yes I’m familiar with Ford Pass. I know it provides GPS tracking that you and Police etc can use. I’ve doubled down with another hidden GPS tracker from my last car (Solid GPS)

Ford Pass though is passive in that it provides no ability for immediate action

I’d like to be able to immobilise the vehicle immediately if it’s stolen (eg aggravated theft when you’re stopped and threatened)

I like the idea of a kill switch on the OBD2 port that prevents key cloning.

I like the idea of a multi-factor authentication start solution that could be disabled when needed.

Ford Pass is a great feature but in the heat of the moment it’s next to useless to deal with theft.

The more effort you put in to securing anything, the easier it is to hack it!

Seemingly, there are people whose whole life is centered around illegal activities. Fact is, I have always been amazed at the amount of work some people will expend to thieve, rob, and steal. If they put the same amount of effort into be honest, they'd be rich!

IMHO the best "kill switch" is an interruption of the fuel pump relay, it won't stop them from towing the car away but they won't drive it away without some effort, even if they have a diagnostic scanner

All you can do is have good insurance and make the car more of a PITA than they think it is worth so they will move on to another target.

The starter relay is also another option, providing the load side is not high current. If you get on the load side even if they get in the fuse box and jump the terminals the downstream break in the circuit will keep it from spinning. That would require them to dig and they are not going to do that in a driveway or parking lot.

Toyota HiAce, awaiting S650 GT manual.
This came up a while back on this forum, and some of the talk was straight up steering lock.
I'm pretty sure that's what I'll be doing.

Update - grabbed one of these - solid, easy to fit and remove and well reviewed.

A good old school deterrent

Will think about remote immobiliser later but for now this will do

My son uses one of these - much less risk of steering wheel damage
I did consider this but read of some examples where the lock mechanism failed and the vehicle was stranded.

Y'all worry too much. F-150's are stolen more often than Mustangs. Just drive and enjoy.

Maybe it's a matter of which country you live.. but unless you did something "special" to your car (while you can even add those mods, if added to the insurance contract), a car is just a car, and the insurance isn't crazy expensive (considering its price). It get stolen.. you buy another.. the insurance will pay (yeah with a minimal difference, but whatever) who cares.
Also, the percentage of stolen vehicles is minimum if compared with the vehicles damaged: to search for stuff in your car, to take off your wheels.. or you cat... I mean i don't see this "big" issue here.
