This looks like a top hatted S550. With the enoumous electirication push I would be suprised if it is any but that. Just doesn't make alot of sense from a business case perspective.
Many people are tracking as such, but not sure if it is or isn't.
Would be exciting if its on the same platform as the explorer.
Extruded aluminum impact beam, magnesium front end module, extruded aluminum engine bay rails, cast aluminum shock towers, lots of scalping in the body structure...
S550 based, at least initially. CD6 offers advantages due to company wide volume, electrification, and future potential for advanced material usage.
Jason Castriota is someone's work you should be looking at aswell.
Unfortunately what you described as negative is where things are going.
Using shape and light vs aggressive lines to show form is the future, the Aviator is distinct but not agressive.
Or it actually is largely carry over s550 with a full top hat and a mild tear up for hybrid considerations.
You guy's should rematch a faster horse. The s550 didn't even physically exist a year prior to job 1.
While work does start rather early on future programs for most oem's it's generally...
There is that assumption it's all new...
Furthermore tophatting a platform is also different then developing the lead vehicle on a platform. If S650 is on CD6 it's not the first.
There was no math data for a shorter mustang to my understanding it never made it farther then initial...
Crash performance is one of the largest driver's of vehicle weight due to body structure and airbag content.
Small over lap has added a far amount of weight. That is one reason the S550 has those huge steel plates that run from the outer front frame rail to the hinge pillar complimenting the...
I can assure you they dont. I would put every dime I have on that bet. They are getting close though.
The Bronco isn't even finalized and it has been teased.
There is a theme, and a series of designs from a few designers and their interpretation of that. I would estimate 4-7 months the whole...
S650 isn't getting smaller, it will keep similar portions.
You won't see any prototypes q4 this year, it's way to early, Ford doesn't even know what it looks like yet.
It won't look like s550, and it will be discernible at a distance from s550 to ensure everyone knows it's new.
I am still hearing S550 based.
But the program is moving along. By fall they should be marching forward on what S650 is aesthetically.
I would say the Aviator is more than just a concept, it is very indicative.
It still sounds S550 based, if the future platform it was rumored to be on is still on track, that's a good thing.
The changes and current state of S650 sound like it still could go either way.
However there is not alot of time left before 2020/1, makes me wonder if it is going to be mostly...
Most longitudinal hybrids have inline motor generator units, which are ideal if you don't want to tear up a body structure. Generally a small battery in the trunk, under or behind seats, with your HV wiring running up the tunnel to the MGU sandwiched between the engine and transmission which...
There is a pretty significant weight difference. The Camaro has a 110lbs advantage in just the body in white. IIRC looking at just the body and core chassis systems it's about 180lbs.
That being said the mustang is very weight competitive for its material usage. There are some base GTPPs that...
