These are not related. BMWs are well known for short overhangs and have no problem with interior room or trunks in externally smaller vehicles. An M4 has 110.7" wheelbase with 183" length vs 110.7/188 for the Camaro and 107/188 for the Mustang. M4 and Mustang trunk volume is about the same (and...
I don't know what the margin is on the GT. You can plot a curve to maximize profit based on demand curve and margin. You can treat a limited production unit like this as a monopoly product. Since there is significant ADM going on, I assume Ford has plenty of margin to increase production without...
Ford was on that track for a while but then has been pairing back it's holdings for quite a while. In addition to axing old US sub-brands (Mercury) it acquired and then sold off Jaguar, Aston Martin, Volvo, Land Rover, and a big stake in Mazda. All those companies seem to be doing OK under...
There is a lot of room to extend the wheelbase and shorten overhang. The M4 is almost 5 inches shorter and has a 3 inch longer wheelbase than the S550. There are obvious advantages, and some less obvious ones. One, you can build a lower car that doesn't scrape on steep driveways as bad.
I don't know what it is about automotive designers/artists, but it seems that at design school (or wherever) they are all indoctrinated to design impractical cars with slits for windows and preposterously high belt-lines. Why? IMO that's the main thing wrong with the 6th gen Camaro looks. GM...
OK, it's not going to be a Miata...EVER, but there is no reason the Mustang must stay as big as it is or get bigger. There are examples of similarly appointed vehicles with comparable performance and 4 seats. The fact that Ford or GM don't make them means they are more expensive than a Mustang...
Fox bodies had a V8, 65-68s had a V8, and a back seat, and were smaller.
Umm....full sized American children maybe. Have you been in the back seat of an S550?
The current S550 is as big as the Gen 1.5 (71-73) Mustang (I still find it odd that Ford considers 65-73 all Gen1). In any case, most people (sorry if you have one) consider those years as big boats that lost the pony car recipe. The S550 definitely carries the weight better than a '73, but it...
OK, go with the E90 series M3 with an admittedly slightly smaller 4.0 or 4.4L V8. It is shorter, but has a longer wheelbase and a couple hundred pounds lighter. There is definitely room to shed some lbs, shed a little overhang, push the wheels out to the corners and still have good crash...
