    If I were to speculate, I would say that's only part of the story. Keep in mind that the Modular is now a quarter of a century old (sheesh, where does the time go), and that the Windsor was a 1960s design, I believe that they were trying to get better horsepower better reliability better...

    Perhaps. Then again, in the late 70s and early 80s, they thought it'd be the end of large displacement engines, and yes, they were also anticipating that no more V8s ever was a very real possibility in the near future. One year, there was a 305 offered in the Corvette, of all things! But...
