Yeah, I think that unfortunately it's just a fairly common "feature" of the design pecularity and color choice. I've observed similar gaps in other mustangs of this model, some worse, some better, but the color was the most obvious giveaway. Because the rubber seal is black it tends to highlight...

See if the kit came with any sort of printed or virtual instructions. I wonder if there's a setting of some sort that you can trigger the views with vs. physi6button. I think that Naviks has that option (auto or manual trigger with the "OK" button).

Back to the topic, lol. It's likely a 2 step process so that the hood doesn't feel like it's about to take off at highway speeds and that it is still aligned with the panels. Corner rubber stops for alignment and probably hood latch itself for downward travel.
