and that’s kind of the problem isn’t it?
Instead of upgrading the mustang to be even better and chasing cars out of its league, ford has a history of resting in its behind when there is no Camaro. Last time this happened, a v6 Hyundai Genesis (before genesis was its own brand) and Nissan v6 z...
The more I see, the more it looks a whole lot like an s550 and in another leak, even s197. I would hope they aren’t out of ideas so badly as to go back s gen or two. Hopefully some of the leaks are not representative and the camo is responsible for s550 similarities.
so far, I’m afraid it looks...
From the bottom of the front, yes. But the top of the front end is about where the s550 is, just heavily tapered to try to hide it. It’s a bit thicker looking at it head on, but will still be a win if it translates to better aero. Of course, the possibility exists that it only appears that way...
Agreed. You can see enough to recognize that at least the front, sides, and elements of the rear are new as well as the interior. It’s the whole car. Hopefully the wheels are just whatever was laying around and the right size.
Looks like either side scoops are making a comeback or haunches are going to be more pronounced - or both.
overall, the stance and certain visible elements make it look very similar to the s550 complete with ginormous grille.
That's awesome. I think Ford built them right. I remember seeing one right before they became available and my parents sitting me in the new, swanky interior. It seemed so futuristic. At the time, the Fox GT (and Cobra) was my dream car and then I saw that car with the scoops, the interior, and...
Well... they werent' exactly functional. they were open and air passed through them, but they never cooled the rear brakes. It was a gimmick. Still, better than black pieces of plastic pretending to be scoops.
I remember as a kid thinking that was so awesome at the time. Do you still have the...
Actually I am not. I am a form follows function guy. This has been my point all along.
You are supporting my point. There are ways to guide air that don't equate - a fake grill area. And you can multiply intake points. Besides that, the S550 grille setup isn't ideal for airflow direction. It's...
That was my point. The ginormous grille SHAPE (while the actual open grille area itself takes up only HALF of that space) is a consumer opinion driven element - or at least what Ford THINKS people like. The engineers know better. They are the ones who blocked out half of the grille area.
Your...
personally, I think the New Edge is one of the nicest Mustang designs in the history of Mustang.
couldn’t stand the jelly bean looking cars prior. The angles gave it both class and aggression.
the s550 is alright. I dig it. But can’t wait for ac actual modern looking update.
wish the...
mom with you on the new front end. Just really tacky and won’t age well.
the interior will be nice though. Looks like a close rip off the new BMW interiors, wide slab screens included.
Great skill. The render itself looks great.
But that won’t be the car.
This is basically an s550 with side scoops from the late 90’s and new (but still similar) headlights and grill. The rear quarters are just the current car.
it fits exactly the same way “in that space” if it was not called a “Mustang” and had a different, more suitable and fitting name.
you want an electric SUV in that space, then one from Ford or Tesla or whoever would do.
at this point, a Chevy Camaro is more of a Mustang than the Mach E. That’s...
bro. It’s a really cool SUV.
BUT ITS NOT A mustang.
It was a terrible move to call it that and really hurt the Mustang brand in the minds of most.
the vehicle is no more a Mustang than an F150 - which wouldn’t surprise if the new Ford guys want to add an f series into the so called “Mustang...
I don’t fully agree with this.
Yes, airflow is needed for cooling and for combustion.
However, the Mustang grilles are oversized far beyond what is actually being used. Its a design choice and a baffling, unattractive one at that. Take a good look at the gt350 grille. Maybe 50% of the actual...
it wasn’t really lowered. Some designer thinks they ‘hid’ it under that atrocious black plastic grille. That’s why the grille has a fat “chin at the bottom. Doesn’t look too bad in the dark, but in daylight…
Somehow, I had always thought a combination of Mustang, Camaro, and Corvette would be a heck of a lot more appealing.
after seeing that, I’m afraid to go to sleep as I hate nightmares.
ha! My first car was a ‘77 “fastback” (ok… hatchback…) Mustang 2 With the 302. Bought it used from an older friend in the 90s. He had bought it brand new. It was a great first car. But the engine was sntrangled to death with the 70’s version of emissions controls. A cam, intake, carb, and custom...
